Baez is the subject of a “Great Performances” concert recorded in January (to be broadcast in June on WPBN locally) as she celebrated her 75th birthday at New York City’s Beacon Theatre with a host of fellow artists and friends including Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Mavis Staples, Richard Thompson, Paul Simon, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Judy Collins, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Damien Rice, Nano Stern and David Bromberg.

It is no exaggeration that Joan Baez has been as busy as ever in the years since she celebrated those joyful landmark years of 2008-2009, the 50th anniversaries of her legendary residency in 1958 at the famed Club 47 in Cambridge, and her subsequent debut at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival. Bringing it all full circle in March 2015, the Library of Congress selected Joan Baez, her classic 1960 debut LP on Vanguard Records, as one of the 25 recordings chosen annually to be preserved in the National Recording Registry. (In 2011, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences inducted the Joan Baez album into its prestigious Grammy® Hall Of Fame.)

In May 2015, in a ceremony in Berlin, Joan received Amnesty International’s highest honor, its Ambassador of Conscience Award, in recognition of her exceptional leadership in the fight for human rights. It follows the presentation to her of the inaugural Joan Baez Award for Outstanding Inspirational Service in the Global Fight for Human Rights at Amnesty International’s 50th Anniversary gathering in 2012.

Joan Baez celebrated her 75th birthday on January 27, 2016 at the Beacon Theatre. The special event honored her legendary 50 plus years in music in an intimate career spanning live performance. Baez performed alongside fellow artists and friends, including: Jackson Browne, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Judy Collins, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Damien Rice, Nano Stern and David Bromberg. The concert was being recorded and produced for television by Thirteen Productions LLC for WNET New York as part of the Great Performances series on PBS. MPBN will air the show in June of this year.
